Research activities

Scientific research at the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy is carried out in five departments: analytical and toxicological chemistry, general and clinical pharmacy, inorganic chemistry and chemical education, physical and colloidal chemistry, organic and pharmaceutical chemistry, which operate within the Chemical and Pharmaceutical Educational-Research-Production Complex together with the O.V. Bogatsky Institute of Physics and Chemistry of the NAS of Ukraine. The scientific achievements of the faculty are widely represented in Ukraine and abroad. During 2021-2025 years, scientists of the faculty published more 700 publications (116 of them are indexed in the scientometric databases Scopus and Web of Science), 23  patents, 8 monographs, 463 theses of Ukrainian and international scientific conferences.

Every year, scientists take part in scientific conferences. Last year, 39 scientists, including young scientists, took part in scientific events, 13 oral, 69 poster and distance reports were made, 64 certificates were received.

In 2024, the faculty held Ukrainian conferences with international participation:

There are two scientific schools at the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy, which are distinguished by a high level of research and support continuity in the development of Ukrainian chemical science:

The main priority areas of scientific activity of the faculty

  • Coordination chemistry of metals with organic molecules. Patterns of complex formation and polymerization as a basis for the development of modern chemical materials.
  • Development of theoretical foundations, methods and means of protecting people and the environment from the consequences of anthropogenic action.
  • Physico-chemical properties of substances with anti-inflammatory properties; their identification and establishment of the spectrum of pharmacotherapeutic activity.
  • Development of colloidal and chemical methods of concentration of toxic components of solutions.
  • Concentration, separation and determination of small amounts of inorganic substances in objects of various natural origins.
  • Synthesis, properties and use of acenaphthene and its transformation products, porphyrins and their metal complexes, b-diketonate type metallopolymers.

About the Journal

The journal "Odesa National University Herald. Chemistry" is a peer-reviewed scientific periodical. Established in 2000, the journal has been publishing original research articles in different fields of chemistry, including inorganic, analytical, coordination, organic, bioorganic, physical, colloid, and interdisciplinary chemistry, as well as related sciences.

The journal uses a Diamond Open Access publishing model, which is a non-profit approach making it free for both authors (including postgraduate (PhD) students) to publish with no Article Processing Charges (APCs) and readers to access.
